Brooklyn 99 Confirms Season 8 Release Date

What feels like a lifetime of entertainment is finally coming to end. And while we are gutted Brooklyn Nine-Nine is coming to an end, we are also excited to see how the sitcom signs off. While Season 8 of the comedy series has been pushed back due to the pandemic, we now finally have something to look forward to!

NBC has finally confirmed when the final season will be airing. The cop comedy will premiere in August while the Tokyo Olympics is airing! The last ever 10 episodes of the show will be scheduled during the Olympics. The global event will occur on July 23rd to August 8th. With the cast back filming the last episodes, it looks like Season 8 will be dropping late summer. It’s just so bittersweet!

We already know there is going to be tears…

NBC announced the sad news earlier this year, as Brooklyn Nine-Nine was cancelled for the second time after it was dropped by Fox in 2018. Dan Goor announced:

“Ending the show was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honour the characters, the story and our viewers. I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape”.

Season 8 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine could also be very different in comparison to previous seasons. Not only will it be the shortest season with only 10 episodes, but storyline could be more grittier. As we’ve reported previously, Andy Samberg has said that B99 will now focus on current events rather than its lighthearted look at the police force.

The actor explained:

“The challenge is going to be being honest about what is going on in the world and not shying away from the fact that there are serious problems, and also not punishing viewers who like our show and care about our characters. Our characters need to examine their roles in the world. They’re going to be forced to look in the mirror and see who they’re complicit with”.

So there we have it, put August in your diaries people!
