The Office’s Mark York Dies at 55

Very sad news this week, as it was announced that actor Mark York has sadly passed away. Best known for playing Billy Merchant in The Office, the actor passed away on May 19th at the age of 55.

York died early house in the morning on May 19th after a brief and unexpected illness. The Montgomery County Coroner’s office confirmed his death, with the exact cause of death yet to be confirmed. The actor has been described as an outgoing, uplifting person who had a very positive attitude and personality, despite living with his disability since 1988. The obit said: “He always tried to look at what he could accomplish and do, not what he couldn’t do. He had experienced many travel opportunities and many dreams for the future”.

Mark York was encouraged to pursue a career in acting after showing a particular interest in TV and movies. The actor starred in a number of television roles, including 8 Simple Rules and CSI: NY. His most famous role was playing Billy Merchant in The Office. Appearing in season 2, Michael Scott brings him into the office for a disability awareness meeting. Billy remains part of the show, as he is a property manager until the end of season 6 when Dwight takes over.
