The Office’s Ellie Kemper has made the headlines this week. An image has resurfaced on social media of an old newspaper clipping. The picture shows the actress being crowned queen at the Veiled Prophet Ball in 1999 aged 19. The photograph highlights that Kemper was honoured with the Queen of Love and Beauty title at an annual ball held in Missouri each year. But what people are coming to realize is that the ball has links to Thomas M Spencer. A historian whose goals were to ‘boost trade and class control’.
According to the publication, the ball hosted a number of Ku Klux Klan members, as people of colour were not allowed into the organization. The title Ellie Kemper won 22 years ago would have been selected by the Veiled Prophet. News hit social media apps such as Twitter, as users spotted Kemper’s crowning. People were also shocked as they noticed this resembled her storyline in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
One person wrote:
“It really is something that Ellie Kemper was the star of a tv show about a woman who leaves a racist cult and tries to rebrand herself while pretending it never happened. no reason why I’m bringing this up of course”.
While another wrote:
“Ellie Kemper was a student at Princeton around the same time as she won a KKK pageant. It’s almost like the Ivy League continues to be a hotbed for racism and a key protector of America’s most destructive institutions”.
People are now calling The Office and Bridesmaid star the ‘KKK princess’. Ellie Kemper is yet to respond to the findings.
