Chris Rock Goes Navel-Gazing Route with ‘Misty Green’

Hollywood loves many things – hit men movies, sequels, reboots and more.

The industry adores telling stories about itself, perhaps most of all.

Think films like “The Player,” “The Front,” “Jay Kelly,” “Bowfinger,” “Ed Wood” and so much more.

It’s a fascinating subject, no doubt. It also feels detached from the everyday experiences of your average film goer.

Enter Chris Rock.

The sometimes auteur is back with “Misty Green,” the story of an actress attempting to write her own “second act” in La La Land.

She’s an Oscar winner begging for work following a dramatic career lull. She’s reduced to auditioning for roles and managing her ne’er-do-well brother, played by Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya.

The trailer lets Rock slam his industry as both racist and sexist, adjectives that should go over well with Oscar-season voters. The film’s October release date suggets Rock as awards season on his mind.

“Misty Green” boasts a strong cast, including Anna Kendrick, Adam Driver and Rock.
