Jimmy Carr Has Perfect Response to Faux Shane Gillis Outrage

We have too many Comedians Against Comedy.

The woke era saw more than a few stand-ups turn on their peers, eager to cancel them and/or reduce the competition.

It all depends on who you ask.

Either way, comedians don’t have to like or laugh at their fellow stand-ups, but they should lock arms when they come under fire for telling jokes.

We often see the opposite. And it’s happening again. Enter GillisGate.

We need more funny people coming to Shane Gillis’ aid after the latest cancellation attempt. Gillis previously got cancelled for clunky jokes aimed at Asians. More recently, the woke scolds savaged him for saying some women at the gym dressed like “whores.”

For that thought crime, he endured a week-plus of attacks from fellow comics (Cecily Strong, Dan Levy, Ego Nwodim) and Legacy Media outlets craving a Woke 2 revival.

Not Jimmy Carr.

The British comic is caustic to the core. It’s his brand. That doesn’t necessarily force him to defend Gillis. He did so anyway during an impromptu Q&A at a recent stand-up gig.

“If that’s what passes for controversy, great,” Carr told a crowd member who asked for his thoughts on GillisGate. “I say worse things than that every day. Also, intent is much more important than content. Shane is very clearly a lovely man, and he’s trying to make people laugh. That’s a joyful thing. Look at the intent, not the content. Don’t take it out of context. He’s a great f***ing guy. A great comic.”

Carr ended with a joke. And a good one.

“The controversy probably means he won’t be able to go to the gym for a while. It’s gonna be a massive problem for him, lifestyle-wise,” Carr cracked.

,Perfectly said. No notes.
